Milwaukee is home to the largest airport in Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is rich in history. In 1914 it was named after a well established pilot from WWI William “Billy” Mitchell. He promoted to establish a stronger use of commercial aviation within the states and in July of 1919, Milwaukee established the first county operated airport on the site where Currie Park Golf Course is now located. Planes have served a reliable vessel for not only trasportation for residents but as a source of entertainment and community, through the yearly air and water show.
